Why, Hello There!

Why, hello there bloggies!

I have come to realize that it has been over a WEEK since I last blogged. (Whaaa?) When it comes down to it, there’s really just two reasons why– (1) I totally forgot how consuming college is(!) and (2) I don’t take my camera with me everywhere or take my food to a good lighting spot very often.

This leaves me with a bit of a sour feeling– I LOVE blogging and I ENJOY so much being a part of this community and “meeting” all of you and I don’t want to flake out and disappear into blog-abyss! But at the same time, school is very important to me– academically and socially, and I have a hard time figuring out what is important when and how to balance this new hobby with my other hobbies as well as academics… to be continued I suppose. An ongoing issue to figure out, yes?

So what HAVE I been doing?! Well, I’ve been going to classes, reading textbooks, running, eating healthy meals (of course), spending time with friends, rehearsing and performing and holding auditions for new members for my dance group, and sleeping too! 🙂

I’m definitely not as busy as I’m going to be in about hmmm say 2 weeks. So, I’m thinking about reevaluating exactly how I’m going to do this blog thang while I’m at school.

Tell me, how do you all do it? What is your strategy?

And now, onto this morning’s glorious breakfast.

I have been enjoying many a bowl of oat bran, but I pretty much planned this breakfast last night a la Angela‘s parfaits and couldn’t wait to make it in the AM.

1 individual oikos plain + 1 T pumpkin butter layered with banana softserve (generous with the almond milk = soooooo good) topped with 1/2 T chia seeds + 1 T Justin’s Maple Almond Butter.

(PS I got this mug at Starbucks! And it doesn’t even say Starbucks on it! 🙂 I just love the thick pretty glass.)

This was divine!!!!

And… I’m off! Happy Hump Day!

Accomplished

Today, my friends, is my last day of summer– and while I am sad and a little nostalgic, I am also very much looking forward to all that this year may bring.

I feel very comfortable and happy in Philly, at school, in my house, with my friends, but there is no way around that feeling of plunging into an abyss — THE SCHOOL YEAR. Not a scary abyss, just… an abyss. It’s the unknown– and it’s actually quite exciting.

But before I look forward, I’ve been looking back on my summer and what I’ve accomplished and have realized that I’m pretty proud of myself for how I’ve grown and what I’ve discovered this summer. Some of the things I’m most proud of include…

1. Starting this blog — I had been reading blogs for a few months and while my internship was a little slow to start, I decided, you know what? I’m going to start my own– this community looks absolutely incredible, comprised of people with whom I have a lot in common and can learn a lot from.

2. Buying a DSLR and enjoying taking photos of anything from food to flowers– I still feel like I know very little about photography, but bottom line? It makes me happy to take photos. And I’m so glad I found that happiness.

3. Discovering how interested I am in nutrition and wellness– Being a Junior in college means that yes, I do have lots of time to figure out what I’m going to do with my life, but it also means that I’ve started to really think about what makes me tick and how to turn that into a profession. I want what I do to be what I love and I’ve realized that nutrition and wellness– mind and body– are really important things to me and I love talking about them and learning about them. So, I feel like I’ve opened up a new door for myself in terms of what kind of work I will do in life and that is really exciting.

And that’s just a taste of some of the big ones. 🙂

And now, I’m looking forward to growing and learning lots more this coming year– how awesome!

How about some eats, now?

Breakfast was a yummy bowl of oat bran. 🙂 Mmmmm.

I cooked it with almond milk + water + cinnamon and topped it with 1/2 a banana + 1 dollop of pumpkin butter + 1 T Justin’s maple almond butter.

Funny enough, the best lighting in my house is on my bed right next to the window so I get to eat breakfast in bed– it’s super fun. Haha.

Lunch was also a winner.

Green bell pepper slices + baby carrots + a wrap with spicy hummus, feta, and lettuce.

I finished lunch with an unpictured apple and some Justin’s. SO GOOD!

Alrighty then, so long summer! See ya in May!

Making a Plan

I started this blog in the summer when I was very relaxed and not so busy, but now that classes are about to start up and school life is about to go into full swing, my blogging rhythm is going to change, for sure. I decided that my goal will be to blog about 3 times per week. That’s good, right? I think so. But I’ll have to see how it goes!

So, what have I been up to the past few days here in Philly? Nice runs on the river, oat bran in the morning, organizing the kitchen with my housemates, dancing with my friends from my dance group, and just enjoying being at school without the homework! 🙂

Breakfast this morning was a 100% winner. I decided not to make oat bran (though I love it so right now), and I rolled with this pretty bowl.

1 individual container of oikos plain + 1 banana + 1 T Justin’s maple almond butter (Wow, seriously, this stuff is dangerousss. :)) + 1 T pumpkin butter (yay fall!) + 1/2 T chia seeds.

This was absolutely divine.

On tap for today– lunch with a friend, working on my piece for my dance group’s fall show, maybe a run or maybe a yoga podcast– not sure, and a nice dinner out downtown with my housemates and a few of my other close girl friends! Should be a wonderful day! 🙂

And I hope you have one too!

Back in Philly!

Hello, lovelies!

In the past 48 hours, my stuff has gone from this…

… to this! 🙂

I’m back at school for my Junior year (seriously?!) and I’m living in a 3 story, 5 bedroom row house with 4 of my close friends! I’m so excited!!! It is so lovely to have a big room to myself and a big queen bed!

This weekend should be filled with lots of fun and lots of catching up with friends I haven’t seen all summer! 🙂

I hope you all have a wonderful long weekend!

Beach Town

Good evening, my lovely blog friends. 🙂

I had another absolutely wonderful day today… it had many many parts to it, but the highlight by far was the trip my mom and I took to Rockport, MA today. Rockport is a beachy little town on the Northern coast of Massachusetts and it is adorable and cute and fun and charming and beautiful and my mom and I have been planning to go there all summer. It was the perfect trip. It was peaceful and relaxing, and I love spending time with my mom.

In this case, my pictures are worth far more than my words can possibly be so here are some of the highlights. 🙂

Have a lovely evening, everybody! 🙂

Peaceful

The only way I can describe yesterday is peaceful.

I went with my friend to the beach and it was a truly relaxing, peaceful, happy, magical, day.

We lay down on our towels in the hot sun, read our books, played in the cold, refreshing water jumping waves, and sat on rocks by a cliff overlooking the ocean talking and reading. It was wonderful.

It made me realize anew how much I love being in nature and how much I love being able to look outside a window and see a big expanse of water. It reminded me to be thankful and to be content and to be peaceful– wonders for my mental health. It made me really think about where I’ll end up living when I’m older. I think I want to live by a big body of water (ocean or very large lake) with hiking trails not too far away. But I also want to be close to civilization, you know?

Where do you want to live when you grow up?

This morning I decided to do a shorter run, about 2.9 miles, and boy was I glad. My legs were just not feelin’ it today. Not sure why, but sometimes you have to just accept it and celebrate the run anyway.

I came home and made a nice, cool, breakfast…

A green smoothie! (Or green monster as it is commonly known in the blogosphere.)

This bad boy packed 1 banana + a little less than a cup of frozen spinach + 1 cup almond milk + 1 T almond butter + handful of ice + splash of water. REFRESHING!

The rest of the day has been spent scrambling all over to get last minute stuff for school, eating lunch with my mom at the Whole Foods salad bar (yay!!!), and getting a haircut.

Now, packing?!

We shall see. 🙂

Have a great day, ya’ll!
