Hills, Henry, and a Half

Goooooood afternoon everybody!

Today was what I’ve decided to call… Summer Biking Part Deux: Quads.

Let me back up… my day started out innocently and deliciously enough with some of Jenny’s DELISH whole wheat pancakes (out of this world good, for realz. Thanks, Jenny!) After my carbs were digested, I darted out to get some of these bad boys for my dad and me…

… in preparation for our 30 mile bike ride! Now let me tell you, folks– I was not prepared for this. I consider myself a relatively fit person but 30 miles; ahem, 30 hilly miles was a tad more than I bargained for, to be honest. And the truth is, this is hard for me to admit because I get very competitive and I do not like feeling like my body is having a realllly hard time doing something.

Anywayyyy, so we set out on our trip (I didn’t bring my SLR because I was afraid of rain and because I don’t really like it bouncing on my back haha, but I wish I had some gorgeous pictures of our ride! Next time 🙂 … if there is one haha). We biked to none other than Walden Pond where Henry David Thoreau famously spent some time. It was beautiful– surrounded by lush green trees.

So we stopped there for a bit, bought some more water and headed back. Though I don’t like drinking sports drinks, I’m glad I did — and I should have had a snack in the middle too — because I was BEAT! The way back was pretty difficult for me and my quads were so ready to call it quits.

But we did it! And I came home and ate a big lunch and drank (and will continue drinking) TONS of water because the amount of sweating that was going on was pure ridiculousness!

I don’t have a lot of experience with really really long workouts, and while they’re tough, they’re also so rewarding– I feel like I DID a lot today! And while my body will probably be sore tomorrow (drowning out the tiny bit of lingering soreness from yoga on Friday), it feels good! The soreness is a sign that my muscles are working — it’s kind of nice!

With that being said, I think I’ll announce to whoever is out there in the blogosphere reading this that last week, I signed up for my first half marathon this November 21st! 🙂 I am very very excited and also nervous too. I think the longest run I’ve done was around 8 miles, I usually only do 3-5 — but I’m ready for more! I’m basing my training off of Hillary’s first half marathon training (Thanks, girl!), and I plan to document it on my blog; I’ll be starting at the end of August.

Welllll, I’m going to go relax my pedaled out legs.

Enjoy the rest of your Sunday!

And here’s a flower from my backyard 🙂

I’m the same exact way when I have a hard time doing something physically…I just can’t accept it! I never want to feel defeated, which of course is impossible. Good job on the 30 miles though, that’s awesome!
